EDMONTON—Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after an arrest captured on video showed an RCMP officer forcibly taking down a man, whose head smashes into the concrete and starts bleeding.
The Mounties, meanwhile, say the man was arrested while intoxicated and under suspicion of starting a fire and assaulting a fire services member. They say charges could still be laid against him.
The incident took place in Sherwood Park outside Edmonton on Tuesday. It was captured on video by a member of the public.
Alberta’s Serious Incident Response Team, which investigates incidents involving police that result in serious injury or death as well as allegations of police misconduct, is reviewing the matter.
