SIU called in after 'interaction' with Peel police leaves 1 man dead

A man is dead and the province's police watchdog has invoked its mandate after a call for a disturbance at a Malton home Tuesday evening.

Peel police responded to "a domestic call" at a home on Morning Star Drive near Cambrett Drive shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday, according to a news release from the Special Investigations Unit (SIU).

Officers had "an interaction" with a man that "involved the use of a conducted energy weapon," the release went on.

The man "went vital signs absent," was transported to hospital and was pronounced dead, the release said.

The SIU release did not reveal the man's identity, but said he was 34 years old.
