Saskatchewan RCMP officer pleads guilty to sexual assault

A Saskatchewan RCMP officer has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman last year.

Const. Randy McKay was charged with sexual assault in the fall in connection with a sexual assault at a private party at home in Dillon, on May 20, 2015, according to RCMP.

According to Crown prosecutor William Burge, McKay pleaded guilty to the charge in Buffalo Narrows court earlier this week and received a 12-month conditional discharge. If he completes the terms of his sentence, he will not have a criminal record at the end of the 12 months.

At the time of the charge, Staff Sgt. Ted Munro of the RCMP said the complaint was made by an adult woman through “internal channels.” While she is not a member of the RCMP, she and McKay are known to each other, Munro said.

He said McKay was not on duty at the time of the incident.

RCMP said McKay was suspended with pay while the investigation was underway and there is no details on whether that suspension is over after his guilty plea.
