AN APPEAL
BALFOUR DECLARATION 1917 - 2017
100 YEARS OF COLONIALISM / 100 YEARS OF RESISTANCE

On November 2, 1917, when the First World War came into its final year and the Ottoman Empire was in a state of decay, the Balfour Declaration was adopted by the British Government. This one addressed to Lord Rothschild by the British Foreign Minister Balfour, a notorious anti-Semite, proved totally illegal under international law. This declaration of support for the ultra-minoritarian Zionist movement among the Jewish communities sees the United Kingdom promising land that does not belong to a Lord Rothschild character who represents only himself. In this way, the British Crown has one objective in particular: the control of the Near East and the Suez Canal. A year earlier, London and Paris had negotiated the dismemberment of the region via the Sykes-Picot agreements that defined the dividing lines for each colonial power. This declaration is one of the components of the Western hand on the region.

In advocating the establishment of "a Jewish national home" in Palestine in disregard of the self-determination of peoples, this promise not only grossly flouts the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, but also sounds like the end the dream of a united and independent Arab world. The Palestinian people throughout its contemporary history and already under the British mandate has always considered November 2 as a day of national mourning.

Today, a century later, the United Kingdom, the United States, and Israel are cynically preparing to celebrate the centenary of a declaration that represents for the West the mark of its colonial work in the Arab region and for the Palestinian people the first stage of its dispossession. It is within this framework that we want to carry a strong voice from Montréal. A voice that denounces these lugubrious festivities and that sheds light on a century of colonization and destruction of the Arab Orient whose consequences do not end being felt. A voice that will want to re-narrate, redefine the terms of the debate by fully restoring the colonial dimension of the conflict. Last but not least, this voice will be the one that will relay the resistance of the Palestinian people over the past century and which is showing solidarity by strengthening the Boycott campaign, Disinvestment, Sanctions against the State of Israel.
Thus, we call on all people of justice to join us Saturday, November 4, 2017 at 13:00 at Place Dr. Henry Norman Bethune (corner Guy street and Boul de Maisonneuve- Metro Guy Concordia ) to denounce the centenary of an unjust colonial Statement at the origin a a bloody century that snatched Palestine from the Arab world as part of the Middle East chopped-up.
