SIU clears St. Thomas police officer in teen's arrest injury

Ontario’s police watchdog has cleared a St. Thomas police officer of any wrongdoing in the case of a teenager who suffered a broken clavicle during her arrest.

A St. Thomas police officer located a 14-year-old, who was reported missing while visiting her mother’s house, on June 26. The officer was returning the teen to a child-welfare case worker when she resisted arrest and assaulted the officer, the Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said in a report released Friday.

During the struggle, the officer took the teen to the ground, landing on top of her. The teen later complained of shoulder pain and was taken to the hospital, where she was diagnosed with a fractured clavicle, the SIU said.
