Screening of the alternative queer reaity film (heterotopian): Hron, A Country of Ghosts on November 25, 2019!

On November 25, the film "Hron, A Country of Ghosts"https://www.hronlefilm.com/ will be screened at the Cinéma Moderne https://www.cinemamoderne.com/ in Montreal as part of the Images+Nations festival http://image-nation.org/en.

It is a heterotopic queer science fiction feature film about war, but above all a story of friendship and communities.

It is inspired by the book with the eponymous name written by Margaret Killjoy http://birdsbeforethestorm.net/fiction/a-country-of-ghosts/. This independent film is co-produced by the Hron Collective and Groupe Intervention Vidéo (GIV), a centre for feminist artists working in Montreal for 40 years http://givideo.org/.

It is directed by Dani Tardif (On a Gagné 2013, bonds 2018) and directed by Noé Larose, Johanne Ductan-Petit, Pallina Michelot, Sigrid Patterson and Nahéma Ricci. The majority of the production team in front of and behind the camera is composed of emerging artists from the LGBTQ community, an intentional choice to give visibility to people less often represented in the film industry.

"Hron" is part of the emergence of the innovative trend of LGBTQ science fiction (in Quebec; Earthbound, Swarm of Selenium, Post_cunt and others). It is a film that raises the question of living together, an essential question for a generation that is concerned about its own future and that of the planet, between climate change and migratory crises. Heterotopy, because it is a film that presents a "messy" reality, between utopia and dystopia. By taking place in an alternative queer universe, "Hron" also allows a fantastic representation of the contemporary issues of young LGBTQ people. It presents characters who empower themselves to represent themselves in the way that suits them best. "I want my audience to feel seen and represented and my cinema to give them the hope and courage to define themselves and transform the world in their image," says Dani Tardif.

The shooting took place over twelve intensive days in August and September 2017, between Montreal and the Petite-Nation region in the Outaouais. We set up a self-managed camp on the property of our local partner, the company "Les Folies Bergères"http://www.lafromagerielesfoliesbergeres.ca/, where the team members, as well as the actors and actresses, slept in their tents in the forest, sharing a rudimentary collective kitchen installed in the open air. The project was so popular that on some days there were as many as forty people living in the camp. Moving equipment in the rain and mud has not always been easy!
