Join Cinema Politica Concordia for the Quebec premiere of the Emmy-winning documentary WHITE RIGHT: MEETING THE ENEMY, in which director Deeyah Khan meets with U.S. neo-Nazis & white nationalists and investigates the resurgence of far-right extremism in the country.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with:

+Marilou Craft - anti-racist activist, artist and writer who was the first to publish a critique of Robert Lepage's SLAV.

+Touhami Rachid Raffa - Algerian-Canadian jurist and ex-president of the Islamic Cultural Centre of Quebec City, where the Quebec Mosque shooting took place in 2017.

+Hosted by Prof. Yasmin Jiwani - a feminist academic and activist whose work examines media representations of racialized peoples.

In this Emmy-winning documentary, acclaimed Muslim filmmaker Deeyah Khan meets U.S. neo-Nazis and white nationalists, including Richard Spencer, face to face. She attends the now-infamous Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville and seeks to understand the personal and political motivations behind the resurgence of far-right extremism in the U.S. Deeyah's safety is jeopardized while she attempts to discover new possibilities for connection and solutions, and her film is an urgent, resonant and personal look at race wars in America.

Joignez-vous à Cinema Politica Concordia pour la première québécoise du documentaire primé aux Emmy WHITE RIGHT: MEETING THE ENEMY, dans lequel la réalisatrice Deeyah Khan cherche à comprendre les motivations derrière la résurgence de l'extrême droite aux États-Unis.

La projection sera suivi par un panel de discussion avec Marilou Craft, artiste, activiste et auteure anti-raciste qui publia la première critique de la pièce SLAV, et Touhami Rachid Raffa, juriste algérien et canadien et ex-président du Centre culturel islamique de Québec, dont la mosquée a été le théâtre d’un attentat antimusulman le 28 janvier 2017. Le panel sera animé par Yasmin Jiwani, intellectuelle et activiste féministe dont le travail examine la représentation médiatique des peuples racialisés.

Cette projection est co-présentée avec Montréal Antifasciste et Sub.Media. Admission sur base de contributions volontaires (5-10$ suggéré). La salle est accessible en fauteuil roulant. Dans ce documentaire primé aux Emmy, la réalisatrice musulmane Deeyah Khan va à la rencontre de néo-Nazis et de nationalistes blancs américains, incluant Richard Spencer, et se rend à Charlottesville pour assister rassemblement "Unite the Right" alors qu'elle cherche à comprendre les motivations personnelles et politiques derrière la résurgence de l'extrémisme de droite aux États-Unis. La sécurité de Deeyah est compromise alors qu'elle tente de trouver de nouvelles possibilités pour développer des solutions et le film est un regard personnel, urgent et percutant sur les guerres raciales aux États-Unis.
