An officer with the Waterloo Regional Police Service has been charged with sexual assault and breach of trust by a public officer after a complaint made almost a year ago, the province's Special Investigations Unit says.
The officer was arrested on Wednesday by members of the SIU and has been released on several conditions. He is due in a Toronto courtroom on Nov. 15.
The SIU said it was contacted by the Waterloo Regional Police Service on Nov. 28, 2017 after a woman made a complaint of a sexual nature against the officer.
The complaint was based on incidents that reportedly occurred between October 2010 and December 2012, the SIU said.
